Monster B SV1CV-1M Component Video Cables (1 meter) Review

Monster B SV1CV-1M Component Video Cables (1 meter)
Average Reviews:

First off, I think Monster drastically inflates the prices on it's products. I think they make excellent stuff, but just charge way more than they should. These cables appear to be an exception and are actually reasonably priced. If your needs call for a short component cable, this cable is the ideal and as good as it ever needs to be. I can't possibly believe that buying a "better grade" cable would ever be noticable by any mortals in an A-B test..... even the purist of videophiles.

MOBI MobiCam System Review

MOBI MobiCam System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was really looking forward to having a monitor so I could see my son at night. When I started using it the monitor had lines running through the picture and I couldn't hear anything. The manufacturer said that it doesn't work when you have a wireless network. I was really disappointed so I sent it back. I bought the Handheld Color Video Monitor by Summer Infant. It works great with my wireless network and my 2.4 Ghz phones. It doesn't work very good with other 900Mhz phones or controls according to the manual.

The MOBI technologies 70001 MobiCam Wireless System is a simple, reliable, and highly economical solution for any basic remote monitoring needs. Requiring no installation, the 70001 MobiCam system's compact design and wireless technology allow you to position the camera and monitor virtually anywhere making it both easy to use and completely portable. The 70001's camera features automatic voice-activated video transmission with an adjustable sensitivity, as well as IR (InfraRed) LEDs (light emitting diodes) that allow you to receive a picture in total darkness, making it an ideal solution as a baby monitor or for other in-home surveillance. The 70001 MobiCam's camera utilizes the NTSC signal system to achieve 510 by 492 effective pixels of resolution. The IR LED emitters allow this camera to receive a picture under no-light (0 Lux) conditions up to 10-feet away, while the built-in microphone allows for one-way audio transmission and enables the voice-activated video transmission feature. The MobiCam's camera includes a built-in 2.4 GHz omni-directional antenna and three selectable channels that allow you to use multiple cameras with a single monitor. This unit's compact design allows it to be placed in tight spaces such as cribs or shelves, while its adjustable ball-mount-style camera lens lets you achieve an optimum viewing angle. The MOBI 70001 camera can run on either nine-volts DC power via an included AC/DC adapter or eight AA batteries for additional portability, and has an operating temperature of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius. The 70001 MobiCam's 2.4 GHz monitor allows for signal reception from up to 300-feet away with a clear line of sight. This unit utilizes a 1.5-inch TFT (Thin Film Transistor, or active-matrix) LCD (liquid crystal display) screen that provides you with a clear and sharp picture with 490 by 240 effective pixels. The MOBI 70001 monitor includes three selectable channels to allow you to monitor multiple rooms, and a standard A/V (audio/video) output jack for connecting to a TV or VCR. The 70001's monitor runs on batteries or via an included AC/DC adapter, while optional PC software and an adapter allows for automated recording via the Internet, your cell phone or pager.Technical Features:
Signal distance: up to 300-feet (clear line of sight)
Signal types: 2.4 GHz wireless transmission, NTSC TV system
Sensitivity: minimum illumination of 0 Lux up to 10-feet
Effective pixels: 510 x 492 for camera, 490 x 240 for monitor
Camera operating temperature: 0 to 40 degrees Celsius
Camera dimensions: approximately 9.2 x 5.9 x 12.3 centimeters (W x D x H)
Designed primarily for indoor use, the MOBI 70001 MobiCam system deserves serious consideration as one of the easiest and most portable economical monitoring solutions available, especially for parents traveling with a small child. While both camera and monitor are freestanding units, mounts are included for each allowing additional installation options. This system is made in the USA and was the winner of the 2004 iParenting Media Award. Users should note that the camera's image sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.About Surveillance Camera Technical Features Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient. What's in the Box Camera, monitor, mounting kit, A/V cable, and AC adapter.

Sony DVP-NS575P/S Progressive Scan DVD Player, Silver Review

Sony DVP-NS575P/S Progressive Scan DVD Player, Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this player for about a week now and am reasonably happy with it. I bought this player to replace my 3 year old Sony DVD player that couldn't read my burned DVD-R or DVD+R media.
Not a problem with this unit -- I've thrown DVD+R, DVD-R, and DVD+RW disks at it and it's had no issues whatsoever, nor has it had any problems reading the several Netflix rental DVDs I've thrown at it. So far, so good.
The picture on my 4:3 tube TV is excellent, as you'd expect, although it seems slightly darker than what I'm accustomed to, even after fiddling with the various cinema modes.
Startup time to read DVDs is definitely longer than with my 3 year old player although if it buys you the ability to read almost any disk format, it's not a big deal if you have to wait 10-15 seconds to get started.
The multi-disk memory is an excellent feature, allowing you to remove a disk and play others and when you put the disk back in, the player will take you right back to where you left off.
The only disappointment so far is that when presented with a moving, intricate picture with fine lines, the lines tend to 'wiggle' as the picture moves. (This is noticeable in the rails and fine lines of the buildings in the opening of Mystic River as the camera pans across them). My 3 year old Sony did NOT have this issue but my understanding is that this is a very common issue with DVD players.
Given that this is an (...)$80-$90 player that will do progressive video (which I'm not using yet) and seems to be happy with whatever media you throw at it, I'd suggest giving it a shot.
October 04 update -- the "wiggling lines" problem I noted in Mystic River turned out to be very unusual -- I think I've only noticed it in one other movie out of the 50 or so I've watched since writing this review. It's not a big issue.

Sony's amazingly affordable and feature-rich DVP-NS575P/B DVD player is everything a budget-savvy music and movie lover could ask for. The progressive-scan DVP-NS575P/B plays just about any disc out there--including DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW--as well as spins your digital photos and MP3 files burned to CD-R/CD-RW discs. It will also play discs recorded in the DVD-VR format (which grants more flexible recording and editing options than do standard DVD-RW/+RW or DVD-RAM formats).
Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system uses specialized algorithms to detect image changes at the pixel level, as opposed to the scan-line level, resulting in a picture more faithful to the film or video source.

Monster High-Speed Three-Way HDMI Switch Review

Monster High-Speed Three-Way HDMI Switch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This device allows you to use up to three devices with HDMI outputs on a TV with just one HDMI input. It is an excellent product once you learn how to use it. There is a secret you need to get it to work though--you can't just manually switch between devices: you must use the "learn" function on the switcher with ANY remote and do that for all three inputs. (Even if you are only using two inputs.)
If you don't the device will switch between, say, your PS3 and satellite box without warning. It did that with me several times right as I was trying to do gnarly maneuvers in Grand Theft Auto IV.
Once I called customer service (it's not in FAQ on their website), and was provided that information, the device works flawlessly.
If Monster would take the time to do the manual properly or at least put the info you need to eliminate an aggravating problem on its website, this would be an excellent product.

Pioneer CD-IU51V AV iPod/iPhone Cable for Pioneer AV and Navigation models Review

Pioneer CD-IU51V AV iPod/iPhone Cable for Pioneer AV and Navigation models
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This connects to the USB/mini jack that is part of the Pioneer AVIC line of receivers. Its only use is to allow you to play an iPod through the AVIC head unit. Its about 18" long, but it doesn't need to be any longer since the USB cable provided with the AVIC line is already about 4 feet long.
Mind you, the AVIC already recognizes the iPod, but it will not play music through the USB port until you buy this device. You might even accept this deliberate limitation if this cord was $10, but for close to $50, you feel like a chump buying it.
This works very well, so I'm giving it 4 stars, taking one off for the unconscionable price.

Videosecu PC to TV Converter VGA to RCA S-Video Mac Computer Laptop to Composite Video Switcher VGA2TV 1L7 Review

Videosecu PC to TV Converter VGA to RCA S-Video Mac Computer Laptop to Composite Video Switcher VGA2TV 1L7
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
~ INTRODUCTION ~
I got this product to be able to watch video from my computer on my tv. After a bunch of research, this product seemed to get the best reviews, esp for the price, and overall I agree. Once I finally put it together and tried to use it, I found a few nuisances that you should be aware of, especially if you are a NTSC (e.g., U.S.A. users).
------------------------------------------------------------------------
~ PRODUCT DETAILS ~
First off, just to be clear, the item that shipped is a Manhattan PC TV Converter Model #150095 (UPC 766623150095)
The product is shipped decently packaged but there's nothing in there that can't handle a little rough and tumble anyway. It includes:
- the converter, which is just slightly larger than a cigarette pack
- 1 yellow video rca cable
- 1 usb power cord
- 1 vga cord
- 1 instruction manual, which is alright. It's not 100% clear on everything but the essentials are there.
- Note: there is NO S-video cable provided.
On one of the short end of the converter, there is a VGA-in port.
On the other short end, there is the plug for the USB power cable plus a pair of jumper switches labeled 1 & 2.
On one long end, there are all the output ports. You have one each of video out, s-video out, and VGA-out.
On the opposite long end, there are buttons to adjust settings for the converter. There are buttons for "LEFT", "RIGHT", "DOWN", "UP", "MENU", and "ZOOM".
------------------------------------------------------------------------
~ SETUP NOTES ~
I recommend that the first thing to do is to check that the jumpers are set for your needs (noted very simply in the instruction manual). If you are an NTSC (e.g., U.S.A.) user, be sure that both jumpers 1 & 2 are both down.
Next, plugging in the wires is pretty straightforward. The long side contains all the output ports and the single vga end is the input. I don't think it matters but I plugged in the black vga head to the converter and the blue end to the computer.
Once it's all in, turn on your components and check that it works. It didn't take me long to get up and running but be sure that the jumpers are set properly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
~ IMAGE QUALITY ~
The image quality isn't too bad but it seems that it might depend partly on your computer and the TV.
Please note that it is UN-LIKELY that you will be able to do things like edit documents or surf the web unless you drop the resolution from your computer quite a bit. At 1024x768 (the setting I have on my computer), the image projected onto the TV is too unclear with the text way too small for you to be able to do any kind of reading. If you really want to use your TV for reading such find details, then it's more likely you'll need to buy a TV that can take regular VGA signals without conversion.
You can play around with image quality with the on-screen preferences but it doesn't seem to improve the quality too much. The menu that comes up provides options to adjust horizontal/vertical size, brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, sharpness, and onscreen display background. In reality playing with these won't affect image quality clarity too much and it's difficult to know where along a 0% - 100% scale that you are adjusting a setting since there is no bar to indicate that for each of the settings. For example, I can't tell whether I've hit 30% or 80% saturation. I just have to guess where along that scale I am at.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reminder of the most important point...
!!!! For NTSC (U.S.A. users), be sure that the jumpers 1 & 2 are both down. My converter came set by the factory with both jumpers up, which won't work on US TV's. !!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recommendation: This product works for my goal of watching videos/movies on my TV. Just be sure to check your setup before thinking it won't work. I got a few scrambled screens before I finally got the thing to show up properly but since then, the product works like a charm. Don't expect perfect image quality. I'd estimate the quality compared to my computer monitor is probably around 75%. The conversion from regular VGA to a TV is not an easy or perfect conversion. Nonetheless, if you just want something that simply works, this will do and as such I can recommend this product.

CE LABS AV 400 Prograde Composite A/V Distribution Amplifiers (1 input ¿ 4 output) Review

CE LABS AV 400 Prograde Composite A/V Distribution Amplifiers (1 input ¿ 4 output)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a "unity gain" distribution amplifier, and is what you need if you want to send the same audio and composite video signals to more than one piece of equipment.
I tested the unit for faithful replication of the input video by using as a source a satellite receiver that has two outputs, and using a video switch to compare the video through the distibution amplifier vs. bypassing it, and saw no significant difference.
I also tried it with an RF modulator that had problems when used with another brand of distribution amplifier, and I saw no problems when using it with the CE Labs unit. Therefore, I would say that the CE Labs unit "plays well with others."
I haven't specifically tested audio quality with and without this unit, but I have noticed no problems.

Nyrius NY-GS3200 5.8GHz 6 Channel Wireless Audio/Video Sender Transmitter & Receiver System with IR Remote Extender Review

Nyrius NY-GS3200 5.8GHz 6 Channel Wireless Audio/Video Sender Transmitter and Receiver System with IR Remote Extender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product is the best consumer product available for this type of A/V transmission. Using the 5.8MHz band keeps it free of the dreaded microwave oven interference, as well as interference from most cordless telephones. The picture is good, though not perfect. But it's more than adequate for all but the largest TVs (great for a kitchen-sized screen). Be sure to experiment with all four channels to find the one that works best.
The only glitch I have found is with the power. Occasionally the A/V link would fail and I would have to restart either the sender or the receiver, depending on which one failed. Also, occasionally the channel selection would change spontaneously on one unit or the other, thus breaking the link. I solved both of these problems by installing small APC battery backups on both sender and receiver unit. I think electrical storms were at the root of both problems. Since then, I haven't had a single recurrence. I've used these units now for over two years.
We don't use the IR link because we have a different one (made by RCA) that works well and serves other devices not connected by the AVS-5811/5813.
