Apple AV Connection Kit for iPod with Dock Connector (White) Review

Apple AV Connection Kit for iPod with Dock Connector (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This box packages $135 worth of iPod accessories for connecting iPod to stereo and/or TV. If you do not plan on connecting iPod to stereo and/or TV, purchase what you need separately (you won't need Apple Remote and iPod AV Cable for sure). That said, included accessories are well built and stylish, perfectly complementing all but black iPod models. All that is missing is an S-video cable, which is a shame. S-video connection provides noticeably superior image quality over composite video connection. S-video improves color reproduction while reducing image artifacts, such as dot crawling around edges.
This package includes:
1. iPod Universal Dock provides an elegant way to charge and sync iPod, as well as letting you connect iPod to TV (for models of iPod with color display) or stereo. This accessory, along with the rest, is compatible with all but iPod shuffle and 1G and 2G iPods without dock connector. It includes adapters for discontinued iPod models. This accessory retails for $39.
2. Apple Remote controls the iPod wirelessly. This accessory requires the use of iPod Universal Dock. This accessory retails for $29.
3. iPod USB Power Adapter charges iPod without a computer. It requires iPod USB cable. This accessory retails for $29.
4. iPod AV Cable lets you connect iPod to stereo or TV set. This is a mini-to-analog audio + composite video cable. This accessory retails for $19.
5. iPod Dock Connector to USB 2.0 cable. Although one is included with iPod, this extra cable is good for connecting Universal Dock to USB Power Adapter for home theater installation. This accessory retails for $19.

Denon AVR-2808CI 7.1-Channel Multizone Home Theater Receiver Review

Denon AVR-2808CI 7.1-Channel Multizone Home Theater Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned a few receivers in the past (mostly Sony ES models), but none of them compare to this one. Denon specializes in audio, and it shows! Don't get me wrong, I love and own alot of Sony's products (two TVs, PS3, Vaio computer, DVD player, etc.), but after picking up this Denon and pairing it with a Polk speaker/sub setup, I've never been happier, and the upgrade from the Sony ES it replaced is substantial in many ways.
Denon AVR-2808ci Pros:
-Sound quality is absolutely incredible! Even compressed music from iPod is great ("Restorer" feature really helps!). Highs, mids and lows are all accurately reproduced, and there are tons of custom EQ options!
-Audyssey Auto-Calibration is accurate and thorough.
-Includes decoding of all current and future sound-fields (DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD, as well as Uncompressed PCM and everything else you can imagine, all via HDMI version 1.3a)!
-Display is large and includes alot of necessary info-this thing tells you what it's doing.
-Solid build quality and nice looking!
-Connectivity options (HDMI, toslink, digital coax, component video, s-video, etc.)
-Video upconversion via HDMI using built-in Faroudja DCDi processor, or just passthrough and use as a convenient HDMI switcher (assignable inputs).
-Excellent sound processors, both for movies and music, complement a solid, beefy amplifier.
-Customizable as all heck: 4-stage dimmer, "Quick Select" feature for three sources, learning lcd remote, volume level options, mute level options, default settings per-source, massive amount of EQ/channel level/crossover settings, and more!
-Main remote works great, learns and controls just about all of your gear.
This receiver is truly great for anybody who is serious about their Home Audio/Home Theater. The only drawbacks are that it is very complex, which is fine except that Denon doesn't make it any simpler to understand in the manual. It definitely takes some time to set this thing up and learn its interface. The Sony's I've owned in the past were far more user-friendly from the initial set-up/calibration onward. However, they never delivered results that were even close to this unit, and once you learn it, it does make sense and is relatively user-friendly after setup.
Cons:
-Complex manual and interface takes time to learn.
-On Screen Menu lags a little and blacks out picture rather than a nice overlay. Also, it's not the better looking, more user friendly GUI that more expensive models have (as well as all Sony's).
-Smaller secondary remote only works for other Zones (not a big deal really, but still...)
-Main remote takes forever to program/set up for universal usage. complicated.
-Only two HDMI inputs (could've used at least one more at this price range).
-No HD radio or Sirius support (does have XM).
Overall, minor gripes aside (nothing's ever perfect), I'm incredibly pleased and excited to own this unit and have it as the central hub to my Home Theater. I have Blu-ray now (PS3) and the advantages and options both now and in the future are vast. I'm confident that the Denon AVR-2808ci will allow me to take full advantage of that and other things for years to come. Mostly, though, it just cranks out amazingly good audio from any source, and that is ultimately what receivers are for. Highly recommended!

Denon AVR-1508 Dolby Digital EX Decoding A/V Receiver Review

Denon AVR-1508 Dolby Digital EX Decoding A/V Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was replacing a Marantz SR7500 with this receiver!
Audio quality is good. It seems to be driving a old Martin logan speakers (which are usually picky - needs good high power current amplifiers at 6 or 4 ohms to drive them). Denon 1508 is still not up to it and falls a little short. But I am not hearing any other extra noises/sounds/hisses from the amplifier.
Cons:
1. remote is still too complex to use; still don't know how to setup other components to work correctly with this remote ( I had programmed Marantz and before that even a harmon-kardon remotes correctly!)
2. Didn't give an onscreen for configuring the receiver, though I have the TV attached using component cables.
3. video: no upgrading to even 720p at this price; just a passthrough
Update after 6 months of use:Finding more problems as I try to use different features! Tried connecting HDMI input of DVD player to the receiver; looks like this receiver can only connect HDMI to HDMI (won't work unless you connect your TV to HDMI)
Update: Another thing I found was the volume is low with Martin logans compared to if I use a normal 6 or 8 ohms speakers - this does mean that it is straining to supply high currents.

NAD - T-747 Home Theater Receiver
Average Reviews:

This receiver delivers on all it's promises... gorgeous sound, excellent connectivity, and simple surround set up and calibration. Encountered a minor problem with the HDMI video pass thru from the cable box to the TV. Found a work-around - customer service was excellent! (still not sure whether the problem was in the NAD or my cable box). I like that the firmware is upgradable (via my notebook PC connected thru RS232 port on the back of the receiver) so should always be able to stay current on the latest audio/video formats.

NETGEAR Powerline AV Adapter with Ethernet Switch Review

NETGEAR Powerline AV Adapter with Ethernet Switch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked up one of these along with the V101 in a combo package to run my Xbox 360 and DirecTV DVR downstairs from the cable modem and router in my upstairs office. I had been using wireless networking for the past several years but had issues with wireless failing from time to time and went through 3 routers over 3 years accordingly. Since the wired portion of the routers worked just fine at retirement in each case, I thought I'd give an alternative a try. I researched a few different brands and finally settled on Netgear's Powerline offering. I specifically went with the ones rated for 200Mb for HD streaming options.
I am very satisfied with the performance so far. The Windows Media Center functionality with my Xbox 360 is finally performing in a manner that I expected. With wireless I was getting VERY slow response in the Media Center menu but it operates much more smoothly with the Powerline adapter connected.
I ordered an additional adapter for a computer and DirecTV DVR in another room of my home and all 3 devices are operating well together with excellent connection speed. In addition, setup was completely simple. It was literally plug and play. No configuration required whatsoever.
I would definitely suggest this product line without reservation.

Cambridge Audio Sonata AR 30 Compact Stereo Receiver with iPod Dock, Black Review

Cambridge Audio Sonata AR 30 Compact Stereo Receiver with iPod Dock, Black
Average Reviews:

I have had the AR30 now for about 2 weeks, and i really like it. The only draw-back is if you hook up your dvd player to the dvd input you wont get the base, only L & R audio. But you can hook it up 2 your Cd or AUX, and it works great. The DVD input is set up to be used with the Cambridge Audio Sonata dvd player. I'll be getting it soon anyways, but i wanted to let others know about this small problem. Buy the way, I live in Phoenix AZ. and got it from DEDICATED AUDIO, who were as good as all there reviews say. The let me just come over, and pick it up, and took the time to show me everything about how it works. So i'll be getting the DVD player from them also.

RCA Lyra Wireless Transmitter Review

RCA Lyra Wireless Transmitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hello All, Probably like some of you, I waffled for quite some time over whether to buy the RCA Lyra Wireless or not. Finally I plopped the dollars down and now I'm here to tell you that RCA Lyra does exactly what they say. And now, the particulars.
The setup was simple and straightforward, most of my time was spent moving my huge entertainment center from the wall so I could get to the back of my Sony receiver. I plugged the receiver into the MD/DAT slot, plugged it to a power source and every light on the signal indicator glowed green with joy. If only 802.?? were this simple. Ran the software to install the remote and musicmatch (not necessary, but I like it), checked all the audio settings per the manual and WIN XP had everything ready to go.

Went to the radio in Musicmatch and wow, the sound is outstanding, no hiss, just pure clean music. The manual stated that the Lyra could receive interference from cordless phones and recommended using position number four on both transmitter and receiver. I tried the others, turned on my cordless phone and no interference.
I subscribe to Rhapsody and Realone also. So naturally I tried each and they worked, matter of fact any and every sound that my computer makes come through the stereo. I do recommend you download the latest RCA Lyra software, it allows you to switch between players, currently Rhapsody and Musicmatch. But, like I said all the other players work as well, Media Player, MSN Radio Plus, Spinner, MoonTaxi, LaunchCast and more.
The remote control is awesome too, it does just as RCA states, I was surprised to learn that it closes whichever player you're listening to and it works through walls with no hesitation. If you're a Rhapsody user, you know that you can skip to the next song, the remote does that and more. It operates all other electronics as well, I haven't set it up for that yet, probably want, I have a nice Sony all you can control remote.
Well, I'm sure I may have missed something, but I've hit what's important to us all and that's the sound and the ease of setting it up.....PERFECTO. I'm very satisfied, actually it has exceeded my expectations. Lastly, it works, now go order yours!

Sony STR-DA5400ES ES 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver Review

Sony STR-DA5400ES ES 7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am extremely pleased with this receiver, especially the sound balancing capability. It comes with a microphone with a long cord to plug into the front of the receiver. The microphone is placed at the listener's head position. Then it automatically adjusts the sound for each speaker and calculates the distance to each speaker. This is all displayed on the television screen. I am using a temporary set of speakers until I can afford a Klipsch system. I have four brands of speakers in a 7.1 setup. I never realized how good the sound could be from my old collection of speakers. This receiver upscales all video inputs to 1080p according to the literature and I have no reason to doubt it. All the video looks good. I have some old VHS home movies that aren't so good, but that is because the original video quality isn't so great. I really like having six HDMI inputs. I am already using all of them but one.
I haven't begun to explore all the functions on this receiver. The remote control is totally loaded with small buttons -- far too many for me. The one thing that has been disappointing is the FM and AM receiver. I have the antenna wires connected and I can't get any stations to mention. Maybe it needs some special setup, but I think I am doing everything correctly. My tiny $20 Sandisk MP3 player pulls in lots of stations with no antenna at all. I haven't had time to troubleshoot it further as it is a low priority for me. However, this is still disappointing. I'll update this review later to reflect my final opinion.

Sony XAV-70BT 7" In-Dash Touchscreen DVD/CD/MP3 Receiver with Bluetooth Review

Sony XAV-70BT 7 In-Dash Touchscreen DVD/CD/MP3 Receiver with Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned this unit for a week which included a roadtrip and I must say that this device is one of the greatest sound enhancing products I have bought for either my computer, tv, or car.
First I will say that I own a SUV with the stock system and stock speakers. I self installed the Sony xav-70bt, and I am a huge sony fan...so I am a little biased towards their products. Now on to the unit. After installation when you turn the unit on you get your first experience on how unbelievable the video is. I saw this unit in a store next to the new Pioneer flagship unit and the new Kenwood upper ranged double din unit (both costing over $1000) and there was no comparison in the contrast ratio or color quality. This unit truelly stands out as an in-dash unit with HD quality.
Now onto the sound. I have always done custom stereo/speaker units on all of my vehicles. I have replaced all the speakers in my old Jeep attached to a mediocre Aiwa amplifier and found that the quality of sound was just OK. One of the reasons I chose the sony xav-70bt was because of the many sound features this unit offers. Besides repeating the specs sony.com has I will say that the listening position feature when used correctly creates a surround sound experience that I feel compares to top of the line quality (and I have stock speakers!) The low pass and high pass features create crisp clean sound and low non distorting bass with all genres of music. What amazes me is that with the four speakers in the car the Xav creates this fifth "ghost" speaker in the middle of your car and when you close your eyes you will think that the speaker exists...its amazing.
Lastly on to the features. The usb connection does not list the fact that the unit will only play the first 2000 songs of that device. (My 32gb flash drive is useless after the first 4gb) This feature is just plain stupid if you ask me...and has not been advertised anywhere. As an alternative people that have ipods can play their full library through their ipod, but for anti-ipod-ites a Sony Mp3 player will also do the trick.
One of the surprises I got when opening the box was that there was an included microphone for the Bluetooth feature. Let me tell you that the extra money you spend for the BT over the Xav-60 is well worth the money. With cops stepping up their cell phone tickets a unit like this serves the purpose very well. During the roadtrip I was able to keep my phone in my pocket and talk and make calls with simple, and very intuitive buttons. Not only this, but the person on the other line doesn't even know im in my car...and I called a lot of people to test it...it works great. Actually better then great.
Overall..A++. This unit belongs in any music enthusiast who wants to enhance their car rides.

So i bought this deck awhile back, like last year, anyway its a great deck, you can hook RCA's up or wires for your speakers right out the back of the deck. anyway, its a really great deck, everything worked, and everything is very impressive, screen is huge, and fits perfectly in my car. Now ive read some other reviews and people are complaining that the DVD player and SD card reader dont work. TO THOSE PEOPLE< READ THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!. If you want that to work you have to go into the harness of the radio and install and ground the BLACK WIRE, to the ground, this wire is suppose to be installed to the handbreak so when it is pulled you can watch movies (its a safety option) you can by pass it by grounding it out. i really hate that this deck is very impressive but is getting horrible reveiws becuase of the dvd option, i will assure that the deck will work and be a perfect addition to your car. Message me with any questions, i could install these things for a living haha.

Power Acoustik's going huge with this receiver--the single-DIN unit boasts an 8.3-inch flip-up screen. Yes, you read that right: The company developed a new ultra-slim transport (only half an inch) and rotational mechanism to give you the big picture. It comes with two cages that will allow for hooded dash installs or a flusher install where no hooded dash exists. Enjoy a superb picture with 800 x 480 resolution, playback of your favorite media, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth technology, and then some. You can also add the optional NaviBox-1 for full NAVTEQ navigation.

Huge 8.3-Inch Screen The PTID-8310NRB boasts an 8.3-inch in-dash screen, for uncompromising entertainment. The motorized, LED-backlit LCD telescopes forward and backward with preset angles. Sony AIR-SA20PK S-AirPlay Digital Wireless Speaker System for iPod (Black) Review

Sony AIR-SA20PK S-AirPlay Digital Wireless Speaker System for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had high hopes for this product --- needed a way to put sound throughout my small house and functionality seemed great (the ability to use different modes in different rooms, ability to use remote with each of the speaker units to control the ipod, etc.) Unfortunately, it did not work as well as hoped.
The base and speakers had a hard time talking to each other, and they were only 50-60 ft apart and in a relatively unobstructed path. Had to move the base closer and align the speaker so that it was in a more direct visual view. Still, with people in the room it would fade in and out. Not sure if this is because I have wireless internet in the house, which the manual says might interfere, but who that would be looking for wireless speakers doesn't have wireless internet??
The sound quality is very good. Not quite as good as my Bose docking station, but I was pleasantly surprised. The other big downside for me with the sound, however, and the last straw that prompted me to return the product, is the volume level. The highest setting is not all that loud. Fine if you are in the same room... but sometimes I would crank up the volume on my Bose docking station and listen to the music in other rooms or outside ... can't really do this with the Sony.

Yamaha RX-V2065BL 7.2-Channel Network Digital Home Theater Receiver (Black) Review

I just received this receiver (no pun intended) yesterday. I spent around 2 months researching this purchase and finally decided to go with the RX-V2065 because I have always owned Yamaha receivers. I'm amazed at the sound quality!! This unit replaced my old Yamaha HTR-5140 and there is a world of difference in the sound. The internet radio is amazing. It sounds great and there are thousands of stations to choose from. I was listening to a radio station in India earlier. The HD radio is also a very nice feature and the few stations that I do get sound great in HD. I did have some trouble getting connected to my network because for some reason I had my router only assigning 11 IP addresses and they were all taken, so the 2065 wasn't being assigned an IP address. Was an easy fix once I discovered it. So if you have any problems connecting to your network, be sure to check your router settings first, as the Yamaha should just connect with no intervention.
CONS:
As some people have stated in other forums, Yamaha has cut some corners on their new receivers. My Yamahas have always had two power outlets on the back and I have always used one of these to plug in the subwoofer. The 2065 has no power outlets which I did not notice until after I bought it. I'm going to have to get a power strip in order to plug everything in and I won't be able to power on and off the subwoofer simply by turning the 2065 on and off.
The FM reception is not very good at all. I cannot get the two local stations that I listen to (and I could easily get them on the HTR-5140). If you go to the AVSForums and look in the 2065 thread, you will see that others have complained about this as well. With all the choices I have with the internet radio, this isn't going to be a big issue for me, but it might for someone who listens to the radio a lot.
The speaker connectors are very close together. I spent way more time than I should have getting the wires connected. If you do not already have them, I highly recommend getting banana plugs for the connections to the receiver. As soon as I get the chance I'm going to order some banana plugs and cleanup the connections.

I just got a new Pioneer car stereo and wanted satellite radio. This item is required, and my Best Buy installer put it in with no problems. The installation also requires the Sirius Connect tuner SC-C1. Together they work seamlessly and invisibly with my new head unit and provide me with great satellite sound (except when we're under trees).
