Syntax Olevia LT42HVi 42-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV Review

Syntax Olevia LT42HVi 42-Inch HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV

I've had this TV for two weeks now, and I love it. The picture quality is outstanding. My panel has no dead pixels that I can see, which is great. They put a lot of thought behind the design of this TV. The input panel is on the back of the tv, but on the side, so you don't have to get behind the set to hook up components. They also have a built-in light to light up the panel. The set has two HDMI ports, which is nice so you can hook up a DVD player as well as your satellite or cable box.
The HD broadcasts are beautiful. The picture is smooth as glass, and the increased resolution of the LCD over a plasma screen is obvious to my eyes, anyhow. Watching "LOST" in HD the other night, I thought I was sitting on the beach with all of them. The Standard Def picture off of the DTV satellite is fair, but the local off-air broadcasts look pretty good even in Standard Def.
The other unique feature of this TV is the sound system. They include two 25w speakers, which really sound great. It has a virtual surround sound setting which really works well for concert DVD's. Although they don't equal a top-notch surround sound home-theater system, they are MUCH better than anything I've seen included with other TV's in this price range. I was going to buy a home theater system with the TV, but I'll hold off and save up some money first. It's really a great value for the money.
The two downsides to the TV are the remote control, which seems to be very finicky and needs to be pointed right down towards the lower right hand corner of the set, in order to work. The other minor downside is that while the viewing angles on LCD sets have improved dramatically recently, and the viewing angles on this set are much better than those I've seen on projection TV's, it still doesn't quite equal a plasma TV. But, you really have to move off to a severe angle to notice a difference.

Time to update your old-technology CRT TV? Zoom into the future with the technologically advanced yet still affordable 42-inch Syntax Olevia LT42HVi flat-panel LCD TV. It includes both built-in high-definition (ATSC) and 181-channel standard broadcast (NTSC) tuners. With the integrated ATSC tuner, you'll be able to receive off-air high definition broadcasts without the need for an external set-top box. More than just a high-quality TV, the set's PC inputs also make it equally suitable for home offices. It includes detachable speakers that can be mounted either on the bottom or on the sides, and it comes with a table-top stand (optional VESA-compatible wall-mounting kit available).
This LCD TV provides a 1366 x 768-pixel native resolution for a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio for optimal letterbox movie watching and compatibility with 1080p/720p/480p/480i HD formats. It also offers an extra-wide 178-degree viewing angle, super-fast 8ms (millisecond) response time that's great for watching sports, 800 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and 1200:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)
The LT42HVi performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. A 3D Y/C digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).
The 50-watt stereo audio system (two 25-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies. The iDIVA virtual surround sound provides you with several easily adjustable settings that simulate an array of audio environments. It offers an HDMI connection, which provides an uncompressed transfer of high definition video from a digital video source to a digital display device, as well as the following input connections:
Composite AV (RCA): 1
S-Video: 1
Component (Y, Pb/Cb, Pr/Cr): 1
PC In (D-Sub 15-pin): 1

What's in the Box TV, remote control, remote batteries, 1 VGA monitor cable, 1 composite-video/stereo analog audio AV cable, an AC power cord, warranty information, and a user's manual.
Syntax's iDEA Technology (Innovative Digitally Enhanced Architecture) delivers an exceptional solution to digital display complexities commonly associated with color, contrast, sharpness, motion, noise and audio lip-sync. iDEA's suite of built-in and user-selectable video/audio features delivers precise colors, sharp resolutions and audio synchronization through its advanced Digital Sound Processor (DSP). SuperSonic SC499D 9 LCD Portable Digital TV with ATSC/NTSC Tuner and AC/DC Power (1 Each) Review

SuperSonic SC499D 9 LCD Portable Digital TV with ATSC/NTSC Tuner and AC/DC Power (1 Each)

I was looking for a battery power TV expressly for use in case of a a power outage. After reading reviews on several brands of portable TV's from various places, I decided to give this one a try. Battery was fully charged when received.
The first channel scan with the provided antenna didn't pick up anything ,(I live about 20 miles from the closest broadcast tower). I hooked up an old set of rabbit ears that came with a TV that I purchased many years ago, rescanned and picked up 3 channels, one weather station, the local NBC affiliate, and something else. The weather & local news is what is important to me when the power is off, so that is fine. I hooked it to the cable, rescanned and received all my regular cable channels. For emergencies this will work. I am purchasing a 12 volt power supply that runs on 8 D cell batteries as a backup to the internal battery which lasted about 2 hours.
It has a very good picture when hooked up to rabbit ears & maybe even better when hooked to the cable.
Another note: I repositioned the rabbit ears and now get 6 channels.
The power supply I purchased is not available here. [...].
The only negatives: provided antenna & the coax connection is to tight to screw the cable to it. (I solved this with a push on connector that raises the connection enough for easy attachment of cable or antenna).
The picture of this unit posted on Amazon & elsewhere is not the SC-499D. Look at the posted customer images to see the image I posted from the manufactures website.
Update: Amazon has changed the image on their website since I added the one from manufacturers website.

Toshiba 19AV500U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Black) Review

Toshiba 19AV500U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I live in a "fringe" area for OTA reception in a densely wooded neighborhood 30 miles from the cities and have a rooftop antenna with a pre-amplifier system. I currently own Hitachi, Sony and Olevia TVs with built in ATSC tuners and find the Toshiba 19AV500U has the most trouble maintaining good reception from several of the HD channels. I've tried hooking it up to the other antenna leads in the house and results were the same so I've concluded the tuner sensitivity is not as good as my other TVs. However, when locked-in to an HD channel the picture quality is excellent. The Toshiba is very attractive with the piano black bezel and adjustable stand. The interface is simple and intuitive, setup was a breeze. I found the "DynaLight" feature annoying as it seems to randomly change the overall brightness ever so slightly too often. At first I thought there was something wrong with the backlight because of this "flickering" effect. I discovered that DynaLight is enabled by default. When I turned it off in the Advanced Video menu the problem was resolved. Overall this is a very good budget priced LCD HDTV from one of the best names in the business. This is a darned tootin' fine TV.

Toshiba 26AV502R 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Toshiba 26AV502R 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Note: I purchased this 26" LCD TV one week ago. As I am waiting for the cable company to upgrade my service, this set is simply receiving a standard cable signal without benefit of a converter box or High Def signal. Many LCD owners consider the signal source a major factor in image quality -- so I want to be clear on this point at the outset. Also, my DVD player is more than 5 years old and does not upconvert.
PROS:
Easy to install base pedestal. Four screws (provided) and a phillips head screwdriver are all that's needed. Instructions were clear and straight forward. Hooking up the coax cable took only a minute.
Superb remote control. Layout is intelligent and intuitive -- a pleasure to use. Glows in the dark (bright!) Sleep timer button is well placed on the upper corner and easy to access without even looking. Easily one the best designed remotes on the market and a pleasure to use.
Picture and sound set-up controls are very easy to understand. Owners manual instruction very clear and straightforward.
Sound is excellent. Very good quality and volume. Treble, Bass, and Balance controls are easy to use if you choose. For it's size and likely application -- a bedroom or a small den -- the sound is really quite good. This set has forward facing speakers -- not down firing as many LCD sets have.
Picture is fair to good. Live TV broadcasts such as news programs and talk shows appear brighter and with better, cleaner colors than movies -- especially films with dark scenes. DVD programs appear much better. (Please note again the standard coax cable signal source I am presently receiving)
2 HDMI inputs and multiple others. More than enough for most applications.
CONS:
Picture not as sharp as I would like, especially broadcast TV as opposed to DVD (standard DVD). Also, I am noticing scenes go from dark to light and back for no apparent reason. This could be due to a setting which may be improperly set .. but I've tried it both ways but see the same effect.
One other frustrating scenario for example: multiple camera shows. For example, a news program where you have an anchor in the studio and a reporter in the field. The anchor looks pretty good but the field reporter might look a bit green or orange. Other sets even this out, the Toshiba does not.
Conclusion:
For the money, this is probably the best value on a 26" LCD TV on the market today. Prices under $[...] are out there. If you are an "average" TV viewer, you may find this set to be just the ticket for your bedroom. But, if you have a critical eye, you may find the tuner or signal processing unit on this set a bit under par compared to Sony and Samsung -- perhaps more sophisticated technology, but which also carry price tags of $[...] and more higher.
Once I get a better cable signal, I may amend this review. Indeed, I will decide whether I am keeping the Toshiba or spending the extra money for the Samsung 26". So please "stay tuned".
UPDATE: Yesterday I installed a Panamax PM8-HT 8-Outlet Power Line Conditioner and Surge Protector. The image quality of this TV increased markedly! Panamax PM8-HT 8-Outlet Power Line Conditioner and Surge Protector

Toshiba 19AV600U 19-Inch 720p Portable LCD HDTV, Black Review

Toshiba 19AV600U 19-Inch 720p Portable LCD HDTV, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I compared the picture quality of the Toshiba 19AV600U side by side with Samsung (at our local Best Buy) after tweaking both to their maximum quality and the Toshiba had truer colors with accurate flesh tones, probably due to the 10 bit color. The sound was also much better (and louder) than other TV's of the same size. If you can live without the headphone jack, then this will be a great choice, especially for a small bedroom or kitchen.
One more thing that impressed me and my daughter was how the TV cleaned up the standard analog cable channels, apparently due to the noise reduction feature, which we put on high. Some of the channels even look as good as digital or HD. The 19AV600U also has (2) HDMI jacks and is a great looking little TV even when it's off. We mostly buy SONY but was settling for Samsung (since Sony is not that impressive in this size range) until I ran across this little jewel.
