Marantz SR4023 Stereo Receiver Review

I owned a 2252B in late 70's early 80's. loved the sound but sold it when I got tired of neighbors, police, landlords, and having to move so many times! I just could not resist cranking it. Over the years I have bought at least ten receivers trying to find THE SOUND I LOVED SO MUCH. Clean, clear bass, mids and treble that were lifelike and not too bright or shrill. WOW DO I LOVE THIS RECEIVER! More than enough power. SOUNDS FANTASTIC! I wanted old school stereo, as if the band is in front of me. I have it hooked to two yamaha YST-SW315 subs and Polk LSi9's. If you want to be the envy of all who hear this setup don't waste a ton of money, This is all you need, Just add DVR and OPPO Blu-ray Player. I also had my Marantz 6300 turntable restored and added a Grado platinum cart. I'm set for life. Oh ya, don't forget room treatments.

Sony SSF-7000 Floor-Standing 4-way Speaker with 8" Woofer (Pair) Review

Sony SSF-7000 Floor-Standing 4-way Speaker with 8 Woofer (Pair)
Average Reviews:

Purchased and Received these speakers just a couple days ago. The free shipping was great considering the weight of the speakers.
They are great! No complaints here. I was upgrading from my original aiwa speakers (made by sony) in my home entertainment system. The difference is amazing. Highs mids and lows are all great. I always recommend a powered sub woofer, I do have one. However, if you get these speakers you can get by without one.
My listening interests are varied. I have listened to Kiss, ELO, The Hollies, Peter Frampton, Supertramp and some classical on these speakers so far. I have also viewed a couple movies using them. All sounded great. "Do You, (Feel Like I Do) sounded GREAT! All the ELO was crisp, clean and clear. The only "booming," as mentioned in the other review, that I heard was while listening to "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" by the Hollies. However, it did appear to be a bass sound that was appropriate with the song, not anything abnormal. But then again, it may just be different taste.
Oh, and the picture shows the speaker as looking more of a grey than black. They are black, not the grey like the picture shows. that is good since my tv and all my entertaiment system units are all black.
My advice is you cannot go wrong with these. If anything changes I will update.

Zune HD Sync Dock Review

Zune HD Sync Dock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a dock. It's not a Zune HD. No myths to be debunked. Plug your Zune HD into the top. Plug the USB into a live USB port. Many TVs, Satellite receivers and cable boxes now have them. Anything but a PC and the dock will usefully keep your Zune HD charged. If the port is on your PC it'll charge your Zune HD and let you update it's content using the Zune software client. Included were cover plates for both older Zunes as well. Add an HDMI cable between this dock and your HDTV to watch 720p video content over that cable from the Zune HD. This is exactly the same dock as is included in the Zune HD A/V dock pack. You simply have to provide your own charging source (USB or AC adapter) and A/V cable to use it for more than simple charging/syncing. Even in your living room, the Zune's WiFi will let it sync with your PC, so this dock in a living room is a perfect place to keep your Zune up to date and entertaining you. There is also a digital SPDIF connection for your 5.1 A/V receiver should you want to simply enjoy music off your Zune through your home audio system. Remote control included. the Zune HD's TV interface is a joy to use compared with the TV interface from older Zunes.

Connect to your PC and sync your collection while you charge your Zune in style. Control from a distance with the included wireless remote.

Wireless Remote Control The wireless remote gives you full access to your Zune player from anywhere in the room.

HDMI, Audio and Video Component Outputs You can purchase the Zune HD AV Power Pack to connect your dock to your home entertainment system to view high and standard definition video on your TV and listen to your music collection through your audio system. (Zune HD player and Zune HD AV dock required for high-definition video; both sold separately)

ONKYO TX-SR600 A/V Receiver Review

ONKYO TX-SR600 A/V Receiver
Average Reviews:

I got this as my first jump to surround sound/HDTV and i didn't want to get something that I would need to replace later when I updated my other components. That was the deal sealer for me, this bad boy has 3 component jacks and you need/want component jacks for HDTV, DVD, PS2, HDTV converter box, etc. So you need a few and this had the most for the money. A HDTV will also have 1-2 components so keep in mind you'll want a receiver with at least 2. I was very impressed that this unit it the 'brains' so to speak. Everything goes thru this unit, it's like a head unit rather then a piece of a system. Even the TV goes thru this. Very nice, the remote can control everything. Nice sound options, fairly easy to configure. Optical outs, one on the front, give great sound quality.
Just so many features I could go on and on. Onkyo is a quality brand from what I was told and I couldn't be more happy with the unit.

What do you want to know? Is it a good product that does what it supposed to do? Yes! You have to buy a hook up to connect your ipod to it so you can play the videos on your ipod. You have to buy the rear cam also to hook up to it. It is a great product. I love watching my ipod videos on it. I love the quality of the screen. It works fast enough for me and I show it in my video. You can hook up a 5 channel amp for the front and one to your subs too. You can have your xm, ipod, xbox 360, radio, nav, tel, tunner all hooked up and ready to play! Can also use the video out to go to another source. I have a Honda Del Sol so not much use of another source for me. ha. Some of the concerns I had when reading the reviews I go over in my video. I hope it helps!; I had to edit the video a little. I took out the middle, but the key points are still there.

Pioneer AVIC-U220 Add-On Navigation Device Review

Pioneer AVIC-U220 Add-On Navigation Device
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If i hadn't gotten a few amazon gift cards for Christmas, i probably wouldn't have bought this, due to the fact that you can get a navigation deck for $300-400 and they want $250 for the add on navi. I have it hooked up to the Avh-P3200dvd. Installation was fairly easy, plan on putting it somewhere very easily accessible (I'll explain in a bit)
When i first installed it and drove around for a bit, i realized that the Avic-U220 bypasses the parking brake bypass that I installed on the 3200dvd. So i can no longer view movies while driving. The easy solution to this, is to have the U220 unplugged (out of its cradle) before you start your car. After you start your car and the deck powers up, plug the U220 into its cradle and then the parking break bypass will still work, and you'll be able to view movies (thats why i installed it below the shifter in my car). I've done research and found that others have used a PAC TR7 module and had it setup to have a 5 second delay before powering up the U220.
The second thing that i dont like about the U220 is that it has an accelerometer/gyroscope that knows when you're going faster than 10mph and you cannot enter destinations or search for POI's until you go slower than 10mph. Hopefully someone will figure out how to bypass the accelerometer/gyroscopes, but i doubt it.
I like the idea of being able to add on navigation to my deck, but i wish i would have just waited and purchased one of pioneers higher-end navigation decks, instead of adding bluetooth and navigation on to a base model.

Sherwood RD7503 100 Watt 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver (Black) Review

Sherwood RD7503 100 Watt 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

I bought this since it has 3 HDMI inputs. I can then output to my TV via the 1 HDMI output.
It has inputs galore. No shortage of devices can be plugged in.
Instructions and remote are the "stereo"typical stereo instructions. Very technical.
Sound is fine. I have it hooked up to surround sound. I have a Apple TV (hdmi), cable box (hdmi), LG Blu-ray/netflix player (hdmi and optical) hooked up to it. It allows for only 3 video inputs.
The only issue I had was with the LG Blu-Ray/neflix player. Netflix audio did not stream over HDMI. I connected an optical cable and configured the receiver and player to use optical. Problem solved.
Uses about 40 watts on standby, which isn't much of a power savings feature. I just turn it off. The "soft" off button is standby. You have to get up and push a button in/out to turn it completely off.

I am a custom A/V installer in Philadelphia. The only review I could find for this before I bought it was one from a kid who obviously didn't know how to hook it up (the test tone does not output at the subwoofer jack, but the sub-out works fine,)so I took a chance. This receiver is a steal, guys. Its thin, easy to read, doesn't get hot, has Dolby Headphone and Dolby Virtual Speaker. Bottom line- I've installed HUNDREDS of surround sound receivers, and this is by far the best budget receiver I've seen.

Apple Universal Dock for iPod (White) Review

Apple Universal Dock for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First things first, Apple is a great company and the IPOD is a wonderful product.
However, I have to recommend others to go a different direction when considering a home stereo dock.
You can choose to buy this product. If you do, be prepared to shell out significantly more than the cost of this unit to be happy in the end.
The only thing that come with it are the adapters for different Ipod models. At a minimum you will need to spend on the following add ons: wireless IR remote ($30), and a charger ($30-$40) as well as the RCA cable adapter to connect to your hone stereo ($10-$20+)
The Kensington includes all of the following: Stereo Dock, IR remote control with (2) AAA batteries, 7ft. gold-plated RCA output cable, AC adapter. It is designed to take all ipods as well.
You literally will spend double after on all the Apple add ons.
Its not a coincidence that the customer rating on the Kensington is 4 1/2 stars vs. 3 stars for Apple's dock. Most people recognize great values when the see them.

I waited a week before writing this review. I wanted to watch several movies. First was "Top Gun", which I think has the best audio opening of any movie and is in 6.1. Then "Avatar" Blu-ray 3D on a Panasonic 3D TV, even though it is only 5.1. The last was the Blu-ray "The Final Countdown", which, believe it or not, is 7.1.
All I can say is WOW!. Although I have a fairly small apartment, this was the BEST theater quality surround sound I have ever heard, and that goes for all the demos at the audio stores.
As far as setup, it was really quite simple. From opening the box to programming and watching my 1st movie, it was less than 2 hours.
Find a way to check this system out. Big room or small, I think you will be amazed as I am and really glad you looked into it.

Toshiba 19AV500U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Black) Review

Toshiba 19AV500U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Black)

I live in a "fringe" area for OTA reception in a densely wooded neighborhood 30 miles from the cities and have a rooftop antenna with a pre-amplifier system. I currently own Hitachi, Sony and Olevia TVs with built in ATSC tuners and find the Toshiba 19AV500U has the most trouble maintaining good reception from several of the HD channels. I've tried hooking it up to the other antenna leads in the house and results were the same so I've concluded the tuner sensitivity is not as good as my other TVs. However, when locked-in to an HD channel the picture quality is excellent. The Toshiba is very attractive with the piano black bezel and adjustable stand. The interface is simple and intuitive, setup was a breeze. I found the "DynaLight" feature annoying as it seems to randomly change the overall brightness ever so slightly too often. At first I thought there was something wrong with the backlight because of this "flickering" effect. I discovered that DynaLight is enabled by default. When I turned it off in the Advanced Video menu the problem was resolved. Overall this is a very good budget priced LCD HDTV from one of the best names in the business. This is a darned tootin' fine TV.

I picked this mount up on black Friday when it was running a significant price drop. All that said, I'd have gladly paid full price for this. The motor can be a bit louder than I'd care for, but in general while the TV is moving you aren't paying that much attention to the TV. I especially love that it can automatically turn on & off (via the included optical audio cable). It was very easy to install on the wall & TV, and went up rather quickly. The only thing I will say that did bother me was that the first two or three times I had the unit move my TV up and down it popped rather loudly and the TV shook scaring me a good bit, but that hasn't happened since those first few times. Great product. I wholeheartedly recommend.
The shipping was prompt and reasonable.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first installed my IVA-D106, I loved it. Decent looking user interface, good sound, neat features. Now that I've had it for a year, it has some warts:
* Buttons are very small and require precision to push. You have to push right in the middle of a tiny button to make it work, which isn't a great feature for something you'll interact with while driving.
* Most setup options require you to put in the "secret footshake" of pressing the parking brake and foot brake to get to the setup menu. This includes things as simple as changing the clock or the color of the background graphics.
* The CD player in mine has stopped working. It's been one year and it won't read an MP3 DVD at all, always saying "Disc error". I've tried some cleaning CDs, but it refuses to play them with the same error message.
That being said, it still sounds great. But if I had it all to do over again I would buy a different unit.

Techcraft SWP60 60-Inch Wide Credenza (Brown) Review

Techcraft SWP60 60-Inch Wide Credenza (Brown)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This thing is huge and very heavy. FedEx was lucky I was in the house when they made the delivery, because for sure, the driver would have a sore back after carrying this fine piece of furniture. It took me I think a little over 2 hours to assemble this item. Everything was perfect when it comes to placing the screws, doors, hinges, etc. Seems like this was perfectly outlined and planned in the factory for consumers to assemble all the pieces together without any glitch. My goodness, when it all came together, it looked like it was made from solid wood. Fine piece of art.
Now for the negative. This is the deciding factor for consumers whether to get it for looks over funtion. When I placed my Pioneer Elite 84 in one of the racks, whoa, I cannot close the door and this piece lacks in depth. For those people with the new huge audio-video receivers,I would say measure them first before buying this piece of furniture. Heads up to all of you guys, depth is a little less than 18 inches.
So, what i did is cut the back thin wood portion to give way for the receivers connections (back of the receiver). Now, I can close it after making some modifications on the back side. Ok, the result after making some modification. If you place this furniture on a wall where people will not see the back side from the sides, you are good. But if the back portion can be seen wherein wire connections are noticeable, you may see a little part of the back portion of the receiver hanging out because of the cutout I made so I can push back the receiver further so I can close the door.
My verdict, I gave this only 3 stars since the company failed to consider the depth of big and huge audio-video equipment. Did I make a bad decision for buying this product, my answer is no. For the price of it, I think I am alright though making some modification. This is a case to case basis for audiophiles wanting all their equipment flawless. For some, this is a good buy, but for others, it may be a pain.
NOW, YOU DECIDE!!!

Belkin RF Modulator ( F8V3063 ) Review

Belkin RF Modulator ( F8V3063 )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
An RF modulator lets you connect various inputs to feed into the coaxial cable or antenna input on a television. It's the solution to the problem of having a TV that doesn't have inputs for what you want to connect, or doesn't have enough inputs. So, if you have a video input cable from a DVD or a camcorder, but only an antenna connection on the TV - an RF modulator lets you feed the video to the TV.
Feeding video over this kind of cable isn't going to give you the best video quality, but it should be acceptable. (To get the best quality, you need a better input - s-video, component or HDMI - and probably a newer TV!) I didn't notice any particular issues with the video quality, it seemed OK to me.
The back of the Belkin RF modulator has:
- a number of inputs: s-video; RCA jacks for video and audio (left and right); and a coaxial cable for a TV antenna or cable source
- a switch to set the output to channel 3 or channel 4
- a coaxial cable output to go to the TV
- an ohms switch for 75 or 1K
- a jack for 9V DC input, for the included AC/DC adapter
Not included is any cables at all, not even a short cable to run from the RF modulator to the TV. That can be inconvenient if you're setting this up, so plan ahead. monoprice.com and partsexpress.com are good cable sources.
The box is about 6" long by 3.5" deep (plus you'll need room at the back for the cables you're plugging in) by 1" wide (wider if you use the stand). So it's not tiny, but it's about as small as it can be and still offer all those input jacks.
Audio is output only in mono, even with a stereo source.
You can leave various inputs connected. But you'll probably have to or want to turn off the video feed when you're using the TV antenna, as it may lower the signal quality (or completely overpower it) coming from the antenna.
By the way, if you're wondering why a simpler adapter won't do the job ... the video input (from a DVD player, for example) isn't tuned to a TV channel. The RF modulator tunes it (to channel 3 or 4, in this case) so your TV can pick it up properly.
