Datacomm 50-3323-WH-KIT Flat Panel TV Cable Organizer Kit with Power Solution (White) Review

Datacomm 50-3323-WH-KIT Flat Panel TV Cable Organizer Kit with Power Solution (White)
Average Reviews:

I've had this kit sitting next to the TV for a week and finally decided to get going and get the TV set mounted today before the wife got home. She was tickled when she saw the nice results.
Like the other reviewers I found the kit easy to install and the internet video provided a great walk-through. I would however offer the following tips:
1. Before you begin you should test all cables that will be going behind the wall and ensure that they working perfectly. Don't wait till the end and hope everything works out. You should also carefully measure for the needed lengths of the cables that will be hidden. It's frustrating to almost get to the finish line only to realize that your HDMI cable is 2' short. Add a foot or two to your measurements; you can always tuck any excess into the wall.
2. The kit supplied power connector (the upper one that your TV's power cord plugs into) is rather stiff. I found it useful to plug and unplug the TV's power cord into it six or seven times before mounting it, and that payed off with a smoother connection at the end of the installation.
3. A pair of needle-nose pliers is very useful for bending wire ends into "hooks" for the screw-down connections to the upper power connector, as the supplied electrical wire is very rigid.
4. The product installation video shows the "Wings" of the electrical boxes and plates as being secured with a turn or two of the supplied screws. This gave me the impression that the screws for the wings just needed a couple of turns and then the wings would then pop into position and lock the box or plate into place. My experience was that the screws have to be continuously tightened until the wings at last are snug against the drywall and the plate or box is locked into place. This might be a no-brainer to some but I thought I'd point it out for the rest of us.
5. Take your time and measure and mark the locations of your cut-outs carefully so that both plates line up neatly. You get bonus points if you use a small bubble level when tracing your cut-outs so that both are nice and plumb. I mean, why not do the job right? Yep, you are doing this job yourself to save money, but don't let anyone looking at your work think, "Hmm...a pro would STILL have done a much nicer job!"
6. If this is your first time mounting a TV on a wall you might be tempted to try and finish the job by hefting the TV into place by yourself (if working alone). Unless your TV is very small this is a mistake. Mounting this 40" TV by myself was a real pain and a bit foolish.
Bonus Tool: An oscillating multi-tool makes beautiful clean cuts in drywall like a hot knife through butter. They can be had for as little as $40.00 bucks these days. Amazon sells them at a good price. Not necessary, but quite useful for a number of household projects. I love mine and it made this job all the easier.
When you are all finished, have a sip of your favorite drink and pat yourself on the back for the hundreds of dollars in TV installation and electrician costs that you just saved!

X10 POWERMID Remote Control Extender Kit PM5900 Review

X10 POWERMID Remote Control Extender Kit PM5900
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
MY father recently remodelled his home, and had all the electronics hard wired behind the walls. It's a real clean installaltion, however all the equipment (reciever, cable, DVD, CD etc) are all out of infrared range.
After figuring out he needed a universal remote, as well as needing r/f capability, the search was on for his christmas present. I had a lot of trouble finding a universaal remote that would set up easily for him, has well as have the R/F capability.
In the end, i opted for the infrared remote i really wanted, and the x-10 system. the leapfrog system appeared to have a few bad reviews, and i figured spending the extra money might make the difference (only like $10)
Turned out to be a great decision. I was concerned about the system b/c the front of all the components in the media closet are very close to the door. I purchased 2 extra extender eyes (plug into the back of the R/F recieving unit, and can be stuck right on the I/R eye of your component) but i didn't even need them. One pyramid in the closet ssomehow still controls all the componants w/o even being in direct line of sight of the i/r eye on each piece of equipment.
I would reccomend buying an extra transmitter (the pyramid w/o the antenna) as you might want to be able to control from other places once you see how convenient this is. My dad has 2, one in the living room, and one in the kitchen, if he wants to control music while cooking.he'll probably end up with another for the patio outside during the summer months.
overall, highly reccomended product.

SIRIUS SCC1 Connect Universal Tuner Review

SIRIUS SCC1 Connect Universal Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After years of using a portable universal tuner through either the FM tuner or aux. jack on my stereo, I finally decided it was time to upgrade my stereo head unit so I could integrate all my "attachments". I've been using the Sirius SCC1 with my Alpine CDA-9886 for about 5 months now, and I've been extremely pleased with it. The Sirius SCC1 works GREAT with the head unit and causes no issues with the other peripherals attached to it (I've also got the bluetooth module (KCA 200BT) and iPod cable). The sound quality is excellent--far better than it was using the portable unit through the auxillary input. One of the features I appreciated most about my portable unit was the ability to mark favorite songs or bands and be notified when they're being broadcast on any channel. This unit maintains that ability, although I do miss the option of having the notification beep through the speakers; instead the notification is visual on the face of the head unit, so if you're not looking at the head unit, you can easily miss it. (I haven't read through all the instructions though, so this isn't to say that the beep option doesn't exist).
Don't forget that with this unit, you will need the Sirius adaptor that is specific to your head unit. This is the TUNER itself, NOT the adaptor. YOU MUST HAVE BOTH in order for it to work (mine is paired with the KCA-SC100). All in all I've found the SCC1 to be a great value. Installation was SUPER easy for me (I installed it myself in about 20 minutes), the sound quality is great, and the convenience and cleanness of keeping everything integrated through the head unit makes it a great product.

Menotek Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Converter cable (for Unibody MacBook - Pro - Air etc.) - IMPROVED WITH AUDIO Review

Menotek Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Converter cable (for Unibody MacBook - Pro - Air etc.) - IMPROVED WITH AUDIO
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you have a new Macbook from April 2010+, and are looking for an adapter for HDMI W/ audio THIS IS THE ONE. I spent 30 minutes looking through Amazon to make sure it would be the right one, so let me save you the trouble and say it is!
Make sure you go to settings and switch audio to "HDMI out".
Now the problem... It's not a problem with this product at all (thus the 5 star rating). The Macbook won't control the volume with the keyboard through HDMI out, you have to control it from the TV/Monitor/external speakers. Not sure why, I guess that's just how Digital audio works. This was a surprise to me, so I wanted to let you all know that.
The audio sounds fantastic!

Sling Media Slingbox SOLO (SB260-100) Review

Sling Media Slingbox SOLO (SB260-100)
Average Reviews:

The Good
---------------
The technology works! Using a Sprint Air card I was able to keep tuned into my TV while driving in the country. This is probably the worst case scenario for remote reception. I was only getting about 100K download speed with occasional dropouts. No other streamer that I have tested would work under these conditions.
I was running 320-240 res under these conditions. With faster more stable connection you can run higher.
At home on my home network I run 640x480 resolution with a maximum stream rate of 6000Kbps with Near CD quality Audio.
It works! It works! It Works!!The Bad
---------
This box did not come with a software CD or SVid cable. So I had to dig one up. I had the player software from SlingBox AV that I had tested. In any case you will need to download the latest software from the SlingMedia website. I had to dig up an aditional Svid cable. The Ugly
---------
Couple things that I realy hate about the SlingBox technology.
-Max Res 640x480 res
-Only one connection allowed at a time. If you try to connect and someone else is watching the slingbox you will get a Buisy indication. Thats why it is called a Personal TV Viewer.
-No Recording Option available. There are some third party venders offering this at a cost of $49.
-Mobile Player software is not free. You must pay $29 for wach mobile device you want to install the player software on.Final Thoughts
------------------
All this said, I still love the SlingBox. I had originaly purchased the Slingbox AV but found its connection options limited with out a pass through connection. I now have two devices set up. Dish Sat box and Panasonic E55 DVD recorder/player. I can remotely change the channel and start my recorder from anywhere in the world that I have an internet connection.
BTW this box retails for $179 and I picked mine up for $159. Thats only $30 more than I paid for the AV.

I bought this to replace the cheap cable that came with my 140W sub-woofer. Yes, it made a difference, especially when I crank the volume. I used "Iron Man" the seen with the Jericho bomb exploding, and felt like my clothes was flapping from the sonic boom as opposed to a loud sound with the original cable. The price from Amazon was absolutely unbelievable! Just look at BestBuy and them come back to Amazon to make your purchase!

Pioneer CD-IU51V AV iPod/iPhone Cable for Pioneer AV and Navigation models Review

Pioneer CD-IU51V AV iPod/iPhone Cable for Pioneer AV and Navigation models
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This connects to the USB/mini jack that is part of the Pioneer AVIC line of receivers. Its only use is to allow you to play an iPod through the AVIC head unit. Its about 18" long, but it doesn't need to be any longer since the USB cable provided with the AVIC line is already about 4 feet long.
Mind you, the AVIC already recognizes the iPod, but it will not play music through the USB port until you buy this device. You might even accept this deliberate limitation if this cord was $10, but for close to $50, you feel like a chump buying it.
This works very well, so I'm giving it 4 stars, taking one off for the unconscionable price.

Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT 7" In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Bluetooth, Pandora Review

Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT 7 In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Bluetooth, Pandora
Average Reviews:

This is the first In Dash double din GPS head unit that I have installed. My first impression is that it works well.
I got the optional Ipod cable (Pioneer CD-IU51V) and it connects to my phone (iPhone 3GS) right away every time. I know others have tried to connect with the provided cable and will see connection problems I have seen none with the extra cable.
Pandora and Aha Radio works great. This is my favorite feature. Thumbs up / down, skip songs from the head unit.
The GPS system seems fast and even finds my house which others in the past haven't. I have had several portable (stand alone) GPS units from Garmin and in my opinion Garmin is the best. This unit works well enough for what I need it to do though.
I installed the back-up camera (Pioneer ND-BC4) to this unit and it works very well. I was impressed with the image quality (see picture in image gallery).
The EQ settings are numerous and have allowed me to dial in an excellent sound quality even with the factory speakers.
The voice recognition seems to work OK. I have never found any that seem to work flawlessly OEM or aftermarket.
Ipod controls work well, Album art loads quickly and you can control in easily.
Built in HD tuner seems to work well.
Antenna booster works well.
CD/DVD playback works quickly. I have had no issues with the DVD playback or MP3 CD's I have used.
The Bluetooth connection seems fast and has worked every time for me. Incoming calls (auto mute) works well.
Phone contact transfer worked first try.
The supplied microphone works well and the cable length is great even for longer runs. I ran mine up the A-pillar to the mirror and still had about 3 extra feet of cable.
I'm not sure where the 2 star ratings are coming from but every aftermarket unit will have it pluses and minuses. I did a great deal of research before buying and I am very happy with my purchase.

MobiCam Audio Video Baby Monitoring System Review

MobiCam Audio Video Baby Monitoring System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
11/27/09 Update: I have posted my original monitor review below. Before, my only complaint was that it was "staticky" and I had to move the receiver around to positions where it wouldn't interfere with other devices. After about six months of use however, it made a loud permanent buzzing sound whenever I turned the volume on regardless of where it was placed. It was so annoying it was unusable. The only way it was tolerable if I turned on the video portion only but kept the sound off which didn't work for me since I'm not always looking at the monitor, especially at night when I'm sleeping!
I called Mobicam to see if I could get a replacement but the length of their policy is something pathetic like a month.
I ended up buying Summer Infant Deluxe Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor with 2.5" Screen - Blue (Infant Deluxe Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor with 2.5" Screen) as a replacement which I'm MUCH happier with even though it as it's own drawbacks. I will also write a review for that.5/9/09: Love/hate relationship with this monitor (Original Review)
We had our heart set on a video monitor (not just an audio one) and it was between this and Summer. We decided on this one because of the Internet option so we could see our little guy from work.
When the monitor works, it works FANTASTICALLY. We can see our baby both during the day and at night due to the infrared. I like being able to see his eyes -- if they are closed, I leave him be even if he's whimpering/crying because it means he'll be able to go back to sleep on his own. If they are open, I go to to see what's bothering him.
That was the love part. The hate part is that there is static galore. The monitor flickers and buzzes even if you place anything near it -- it doesn't even have to be anything electrical in nature, the screen fizzes out even if you put your hand by the monitor. If you have a wireless phone, it will crackle louder than the TV in Poltergeist. It is super annoying and I spent a lot of time finding the perfect spot to place the monitor where it wouldn't be affected by anything and where I could still see it.
We have our unit on continuous video monitoring so we always plug it into an A/C outlet, otherwise, we would go through way too many batteries.
I wish we could purchase another video monitor so we can leave one in our room and put one downstairs.
As of now, we haven't really used the Internet option. If that feature isn't important to you, I would try the Summer unit instead since that's the one our friends recommend and it seems to have pretty good reviews on Amazon.

Audioengine AW1 Wireless Adapter Review

Audioengine AW1 Wireless Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I share my thoughts, I want to emphasize that I'm not only commenting on the product itself, but also on the Amazon partner that sold it and the manufacturer of the product as well.
I placed the order with Amazon. OneCall was the Amazon partner to actually fill the order. The product arrived well in advance of the advertised date. Due to other conflicts in my schedule, it sat on my desk for about 2 weeks before I had a chance to even look at it. Regretfully, when I initially set it up, it did NOT work....I am relatively saavy with respect to computer trouble-shooting and was able to conclusively determine that the sending and receiving units were NOT able to see one another. All of the other aspects of set-up were fine...computer saw the USB sender device, patch cords allowed me to connect the USB receiver device to my 20-year old Sony stereo receiver (red/white RCA inputs).
I initially attempted to contact the manufacturer, AudioEngine, over the July 4th weekend. Duh.....stupid move, of course, on my part. Never-the-less, I also contacted OneCall after the July 4th weekend to explore their return options. For the record, they were more than eager and ready to accommodate my return for credit or a replacement unit. That being the case, I indicated I wanted to give AudioEngine a chance to reply to my contacts to them. The next day, I received an e-mail from AudioEngine support verifying my situation and affirming that I probably did have a defective sender or receiver in the package I received from OnceCall. (Oh well, as the expression goes, S%$# HAPPENS.) AudioEngine, ON THE SPOT, IN THE FIRST E-MAIL to me, indicated that they would be sending a replacement unit.....no questions asked. The replacement unit arrived via FedEx two days later....along with instructions and an RMA# for returning the defective unit directly to AudioEngine.
FOR ALL WHO READ THIS, PLEASE HEAR ME LOUD AND CLEAR, ONECALL AND AUDIO-ENGINE WERE POSITIVELY AWESOME IN THEIR RESPONSE (Just read some other product reviews here on Amazon to realize that this isn't always the case.)
I AM VERY PLEASED TO WRAP UP MY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS PRODUCT BY STATING THAT THEAUDIOENGINE W1 PREMIUM WIRELESS AUDIO ADAPTER WORKS LIKE A CHARM.....EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED BY AMAZON, ONECALL, AND AUDIOENGINE. I might add that I live in a home that is about 80 years old and, that being the case, the walls and ceilings are all plaster and steel mesh (not chicken wire or wood) lathe.....all that steel lathe holding the plaster to my walls has given some wireless routers I've tried a run for their money. Not sure why....but absolutely NO ISSUES here with that this time.
Anyway, I must concur with and support the highest praise of the 9 other reviewers of this product. I know individual experiences and situations will always exist, but this unit worked "plug & play" and exceeded what I would have expected based upon my experiences with other "wireless audio" products.
A+++ to Amazon.....OneCall....and AudioEngine for service, support and product! Praise earned....Praise due.....Praise given!
(By the way, I am a professional musician, performer and educator....music is my life and listening to it almost 24/7 is a part of that life.)

Sony DSXS200X digital media receiver with iPod Direct Control via USB Review

Sony DSXS200X digital media receiver with iPod Direct Control via USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The iPod that I used testing this receiver was the newest generation iPod Classic 160gb.
---UPDATE---
What is the difference between the s200x and s300BTX? Nothing in appearance, or sound. They are the exact same thing except the s300BTX has bluetooth, that is it.
---UPDATE---
Here is my situation (this may similar to yours):
I wanted a new car stereo that:
1.
----Controlled the iPod while bypassing the internal iPod DAC---- (Digital Audio Converter)
- which, in newer models (basically everything past the iPod Video 5.5g), has an inferior Cirrus chip (much discussed about with loss of quality outputting your media sound files). The s200x has a 24-bit DAC that outputs a life like sound quality (testing with ALAC--apple lossless) that just does this. More on this point: if you want your car stereo to bypass iPod's DAC (a must for any audiophile, or for the absolute best sound quality), then you will have to control the iPod through the stereo itself. Moreover, if you want to use your iPod/iPhone as a controller, you can just insert the USB sync cable into the front of the Sony. However, if you use the latter method, you will no longer be using the DAC bypass, resulting in lower quality audio from the DAC of the iPod/iPhone.
2. Almost as important as #1, and directly ties into above:
----A fairly intuitive navigation of the iPod through the receiver----.
The s200x loads up almost instantaneous (possibly 1 or 2 seconds), and changes tracks even quicker. Actually, it feels quicker using this receiver than it does using the iPod itself. Moreover, you can control everything, and I mean everything, from the remote. This helps because the dial in the middle of this unit is hard to press, and harder to press correctly (meaning, in the absolute middle). It navigates just like the iPod does through its own program. You can also search by Letter, so that you can limit tedious scrolling.
3. Again, as important as the above two:
----The ability to see the display in daylight----
Although sunlight directly on this device does saturate the brightness a bit, it does not enough so that you cannot read the display. More succinctly: when exposed to direct light, the whites are not as white and the blacks are not as deep, however the most important aspect still retains: The Display is readable in daylight.
4.
----Having a fairly sophisticated EQ. ----
Much to the chagrin of Alpine's x305s, this device lets you fine tune your sound environment within your car, without buying two hundred dollars worth of extra equipment, while not being inferior in sound. Yes, the Alpine has the Burr-Brown (name brand) DAC. Will you tell the difference if your sound files are converted, ripped, or compressed well? No.
So while you get nothing from Alpine without extra money when wanting to tailor your sound, the s200x from Sony will let you adjust Time Delay from your speakers (adjusted for the distance you are away from each speaker), the full spectrum of frequencies (low, mid, high), and your speaker's ability to either act as a subwoofer, or not (have 6x9's in your back seat but no independent sub? The s200x will let you turn those speakers into a sub, and a sub only).
5. And finally, not as important, but still a constituent with the s200x:
----Price----
Needless to say, you cannot go wrong with the features, and quality, of the s200x for well under 200$. Alpine's color display? Not much more than a low resolution LCD screen (the navigation and presentation of the s200x is much more fluid and appropriate).
What is more is that the 'iPod Tray' that I am sure you have read about, is a must, and a new standard. It is as ingenious as it is innovative. In light of the plethora of hanging 'USB' cables plaguing many a car, the Sony is like going completely wireless.
Oh, if you have not already figured it out by now this DOES NOT comes with a CD player. Hence the 'Digital Media Receiver' title. However, with the iPod tray, your Media Player takes it seat appropriately where a CD player would have went. Needless to say, you have never had a CD player that could play, or have access to, in less than a second, 20,000 lossless quality music files.
As I was looking around at every available receiver on the market, each one had a downside. Alpine did not offer anything to adjust the sound (except if you...ya know), Kenwood's controls were awful (which was the receiver I was replacing), and Pioneer did not offer a 24bit DAC and/or navigation was sluggish. With all of those features lacking in every other device, I, in a moment of serendipity, happened to discover the s200x.
What will your receive with the Sony S200x? Exactly what you want, and nothing less.

12 FT Digital Audio Optical TOSLink Cable Optic 12ft Review

12 FT Digital Audio Optical TOSLink Cable Optic 12ft
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While this cable will indeed provide a path for photons to move as with any other optical cable, the connectors are very poorly made. I'm guessing that they don't meet the mechanical specs for toslink, as they don't hold themselves in the jacks as they are supposed to. I literally had to use tape on one of the connectors to keep it from falling out of the port under no more pressure than its own weight. Correctly designed toslink cables stay in the same jack just fine.
Conclusion: Don't spend $100 on an optical cable (since they all perform exactly the same as far as data is concerned,) but do get one with good connectors (which can be had at reasonable prices, but apparently not this low.) Of course, for any form of digital data, whether electronic (HDMI, DVI, etc.) or optical (toslink, fibrechannel, etc.,) there is no difference in signal quality as long as the data actually gets to the other end, so a medium-cheap cable will perform *exactly* the same as an expensive "high-end" cable, unless you are in an environment with an incredibly high amount of electromagnetic noise (at which point you shouldn't have your TV or receiver [or yourself] there anyway.)

Belkin Av20000B03 PureAV Digital Optical Audio Cable - 3 Ft. Review

Belkin Av20000B03 PureAV Digital Optical Audio Cable - 3 Ft.
Average Reviews:

I'm usually a big fan of Belkin, but this optical cable has such a poor fit in my receiver it's disappointing. I had to use a cable tie alongside another wire and now it is resting where it is supposed to go, but not solidly held in place. There's no need to spend ridiculous amounts of money on Monster's high end cables, (digital is digital is digital), but their bargain variety is a better option than this.

Optical Splitter Review

Optical Splitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm using this backwards from how it's made. Instead of using it to split one output into two, I'm splitting one input into two and it works fine. My receiver only had one optical input but I had two devices with optical outputs. Using this I now have both my XBox 360's optical output and my cable box's optical output going into the splitter and then one cable going from the splitter into my receivers single optical input. Some people told me this wouldn't work but I guessed that it would since it shouldn't make a difference which way the light is traveling. Much more convienient then buying one of those selector switch boxes and having to manually change the selection all the time.

Sabrent TV-LCDHR Stand Alone TV Tuner Box (NTSC) with Picture in Picture for TV/CRT/TFT and Plasma Monitor/Projectors Review

Sabrent TV-LCDHR Stand Alone TV Tuner Box (NTSC) with Picture in Picture for TV/CRT/TFT and Plasma Monitor/Projectors

While I was eager to try it, and the price was good... the first one failed to work altogether out of the box, and the 2nd failed after a week. I love small Chinese companies for their willingess to try and impersonate big corporate products... but the results is always the same. Poor quality and utter failure to deliver as the more illustrious counterparts. Maybe some day small chinese electronics will actually all work, but until then I'd recommend finding a VCR or DVDR-- spend the money for a tuner that works if you need one :) or a graphics card that has S-video or some other output that works with your tuner-less monitor.
